Voting Rights and Current Events

During its last session, the Supreme Court made several major decisions that have huge impacts for Americans.
There is now a major shift in reproductive rights for women, gun control, religious freedom, and our ability to combat climate change. Whether we agree with these rulings or not, it is our responsibility to understand the court's decisions and to hold elected officials responsible for the next time someone is appointed to the Court.

Voting Rights and Civic Responsibility

The right to vote is one of the most cherished freedoms in American democracy. Historically, the ability to vote was very limited and many people are still disenfranchised today. Voting rights have somehow become a controversial topic. It is crucial for our democracy to understand the voting system, how the electoral college works, and how individual votes make a difference. We are accountable to our votes and the people we elect into office. To maintain a democracy in America everyone needs to understand and exercise their right to vote and shape the future.

Transportation and Expanded World Views

People agree there is a different culture between the city and the country. Depending on where you were born, how much opportunity you’ve had to travel, and how many diverse perspectives you’ve been exposed to, you will feel differently about ‘others’. It is important to enable transportation across the United States to increase exposure to other people and ways of life. As we meet people and learn their stories, we gain empathy and a wider worldview that makes our country a better place for us all.

Water Conservation and Plastic

Water is the basis of life and plastic is a huge problem since it creates waste and pollutes precious resources. Less than 10% of plastic is recycled according to the EPA. Legislation can reduce single-use and foodware plastic waste before it is created. Smart shopping can reduce waste at the manufacturing and consumption level. We are all capable of making a change at the individual level, supporting broader legislative reforms, and incentivizing corporations to protect our freshwater and oceans.
